Residence

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant St. George campus in downtown Toronto, ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ offers a unique residence experience. Our two traditional-style buildings, ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ Residence and St. Hilda’s College Residence, house approximately 470 first-year and upper-year students. These co-ed residences feature a mix of single, double, and triple rooms, offering students the choice of all-gender or gender-specific living areas with shared washroom facilities. St. Hilda’s adds an extra touch with kitchens or kitchenettes on each floor for shared use. Living on campus provides an enriching environment to connect with diverse individuals, fostering friendships that last a lifetime. At ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ, the residence community stands out by incorporating upper-year students into the mix, playing a pivotal role in supporting the transition of incoming first-year students. This distinctive aspect creates a cohesive and invested community, setting the Trinity experience apart from many other Canadian universities.

As a resident student and member of the ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ community, you will agree to the Residence AgreementÌýand the ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ Community Standards.

 

ADMISSION TO RESIDENCE

Newly-Admitted ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ

Residence at the University of Toronto is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program for the first time, provided that they have indicated their interest in residence by completing the University’s common residence application (through ) byÌýMarch 31st, and have received and accepted an offer of admission byÌýJune 1st.Ìý.

Note: in order to apply for residence at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ, you need to apply for admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto.ÌýNewly-admitted students: learn how to apply for residence at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ. ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ must meet all deadlines and deposit requirements in order to maintain their eligibility.

Places at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ are limited. Priority is given to incoming and returning ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ students. ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ requiring specific accommodations based on an accessibility need should contact the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ directly by emailing deanofstudents@trinity.utoronto.ca.

Upper-Year ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ

All upper-year students re-applying to residence or transferring from another college or university are subject to the ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ Residence Admission Policy.

Waiting List

Usually students who are offered a space on the waiting list are newly admitted students who do not have the or are upper-year students who have not been offered a space in the first round of residence admissions, due to space restrictions in our residences, or are applicants who are applying after the application deadline.Ìý If you are offered a place on the waiting list, no deposit payment will be required until the time at which you are offered a residence space. If you are offered a residence space from the waiting list, you will be required to pay a deposit of up to $2,000 by the deadline set by the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ in your offer letter in order to confirm your space in residence. If you are offered a space and decline the offer, you will be removed from the waiting list. If you would like to remove yourself from the waiting list for any reason prior to receiving an offer of a space in residence, you must email the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ to notify them of your intention.

 

TRINITY COLLEGE RESIDENCES

Facilities & Amenities

There are many student lounges and common spaces available for socializing, studying (quiet study spaces and rooms for group study), and music practice. Some common rooms are also equipped with TVs and games (video game systems, billiards, etc.). Trinity has its own outdoor playing field, a picturesque Quad (Trinity) and a beautiful green roof (St. Hilda’s). There is an exercise gym facility in the Trinity building and laundry facilities (pay-per-use) and WiFi in both buildings.Ìý Just steps away from both residences, Trinity’s John W. Graham Library (part of U of T’s library system) offers technological resources and cozy study spaces. There is a Welcome Desk located in the lobby of the main ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ building at 6 Hoskin Avenue that is open 24 hours a day. ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ can access the Welcome Desk for maintenance concerns, safety concerns, and other general inquiries.

The Rooms

We have beautiful, historic buildings and the rooms in both Trinity and St. Hilda’s come in different shapes and sizes (there are no standard sizes). Each student living in residence is provided: a single bed, desk and chair; lamp, garbage can and recycling bin; closet or wardrobe and mirror; and high-speed cable internet connection and smoke detector.Ìý

Residence Move-In 2024

NEWLY ADMITTED STUDENTS – Begins Sunday, August 25, 2024

RETURNING STUDENTS – Begins Monday, September 2, 2024

Please note that early move-ins are not permitted. If you cannot move into residence on your designated move-in date above, you MUST make arrangements with the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ to defer your move-in date so that we still know you are coming to live at the College. Failure to move into residence on your designated move-in date, without a prior arrangement with the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ, willÌýresult in forfeiture of your residence room and forfeiture of both Deposit #1 and Deposit #2.

U of T Winter Break Housing

The ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ residences are open from the time of your designated move-in date listed above until 12:00 p.m. on December 22, 2024. ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ are required to vacate their residence room within 48 hours of their last exam in December, or by 12:00 p.m. on December 22, 2024, whichever comes first.

Residents are not permitted to remain at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ residence over the winter break period (i.e., between academic terms) for the 2024/2025Ìý winter break. ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ will be required to turn in their keys to the ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ Welcome Desk at 6 Hoskin Ave when they leave residence – either to move to the Winter break housing accommodations, or to return home.

Any student requesting accommodation for all or part of the Winter Break Closure is required to submit an application for consideration to the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ and will be charged a fee for their approved stay. During the closure period the College and University of Toronto are closed and services will be limited; the Dining Hall is closed, there is no IT service, Welcome Desk services are limited, and there are minimal staff on-site. An application for winter break housing is required and must be approved by the administrators of winter break residence. We will endeavor to find students housing during this time, but winter break housing may not be hosted by ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ, as was the case during the 2024/2025 winter break. Further information will be available in the Fall of 2024.

Meal service for the fall term at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ will end the evening ofÌý December 22, 2024 and will begin for the winter term on Sunday, January 4, 2025.

NOTE: Following winter break, residences will reopen on Sunday January 5, at 8:00 am, EST. No early move ins before this date will be permitted.

Move-Out Dates 2024-25

All students must move out of residence within 48 hours of their last exam, or by 12:00 p.m. on May 1, 2025, whichever comes first,Ìýunless arrangements have been made with the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ. Approval to stay beyond this time will only be granted if exceptional circumstances are demonstrated in a meeting with a staff member from the Office of the Dean of ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ.

Keys

Your full set of keys must be handed in when you leave residence. Failure to do so will result in a $250 charge to your U of T fees (ACORN) account.

 

DINING AT TRINITY COLLEGE

The Food

All students living in the ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ residences are required to purchase a meal plan.Ìý Our food services team can cater to vegetarian, halal, and vegan options, and can generally accommodate other dietary needs.Ìý You can find more information on our pages for dining facilitiesÌýand the dining hall policy.

Meal Plan Selection 2024-25

Meal plan selection opens in July, and can be accessed through your residence application. Meal plan selection is due in August, 2024 through . If you would like to increase your meal plan after food services begin for the year, you may do so between September 8 and September 30, 2024. To increase your meal plan during this period, log into and go to the “Change My Meal Plan” link. Please keep in mind that this option is only available up until September 30, 2024, at which point you can no longer make changes to your meal plan. Please also be reminded that occupation in residence at ¾Ã¾ÃÊÓƵ comes with a meal plan, and unfortunately students are not able to opt out of a meal plan.

Payments

Please use your University of Toronto fees invoice to pay your Trinity residence fees at any major Canadian financial institution. See the University’s for payment details. Allow 10 days for processing. Note special instructions for payments from outside Canada.

Note: U of T does NOT send paper invoices. You MUST monitor your balance online. Regular reminders are sent to your mail.utoronto.ca e-mail address.

Please note that your residence deposits must be paid through your application on , and all subsequent payments are made through ACORN.

Overdue Payments

INTEREST IS CHARGED ON ALL OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTS, EVEN IF A PAYMENT PLAN HAS BEEN AUTHORIZED.ÌýInterest is calculated at 1.5% per month compounded monthly (19.56% per year) and first charged in mid-October. ÌýTo avoid interest charges, payments must be made by the end of the previous month.

Early Residence Withdrawals

Residence contracts are for the full academic year, i.e. both fall and winter terms.
